Ok, admit it girls, we all grouse about not having enough clothes to wear albeit the wardrobe reflects heaps of clothes piled up haphazardly (at least in my case as I am very disorganized). Yes, we aren’t familiar with the geographical landscape of our wardrobe as we never know what is the pandora box all…
Specially Post Holi, Skin and Hair Care turns imperative. Being a festival of color, victory of good over evil and symbol of creation and renewal, Holi is one of the most celebrated festivals of India. Our faces are smeared with colors, hair are dripping wet blended with all color highlights, color water is splashed all over body and we are screaming Happy Holi. Yes, thandaai chills us throughout the day and after we get back to our senses; we realize the fun is over. Our face looks tanned, succumbing to small breakouts, hair turns brittle like a broom and skin bears the brunt of colors all over. So, should we stop playing Holi? Nah! Not at all. But, maintaining skin and hair care post Holi is imperative.
Be it Holi or not, oil your hair twice a week. Hopefully before heading for immersing in colors, you had oiled your hair. If not, start applying oil to your hair often the following week. Choose the type of oil according to your hair and other issues. Also, apply oil thoroughly to the roots then dripping your ends in it.
- Olive oil: Preferable for dry hair.
- Coconut Oil: The universal remedy for all hair types.
- Almond Oil: To beat dandruff
- Argan Oil: Best for dry and frizzy hair
Currently, I am using this Ayurveda remedy hailing from Kerala, India. Known for retaining the original hair color, preventing hair breakage and damage,it is the savior from hair issues. If you ever visit this place, commonly known as God’s country, give this product a try.
It’s worth only 100 bucks and you need to blend it in lukewarm oil and leave it overnight. The bottle can last maximum for 6 months albeit varies as per the usage and hair length.
Proper Shampoo and Conditioner
Well, advising the usage of proper shampoo and conditioner is akin to beating a dead horse. Although, generally we tend to take this basic thing for granted and end up using any shampoo. Well, I won’t slander any shampoo yet certain of them have the advantage over others. If your hair are chemically treated, opt for shampoos meant particularly for that treatment.
Although, If you have virgin hair, give a shot to Loreal Pro Fiber and Liss Mask. Generally, we are advised to use the shampoo and conditioner of same family. Moreover, a conditioner always comes in scanty quantity and is never enough owing to long hair.
The best option is use a mask instead of a conditioner.
Masks not only provide intense moisture to your hair and keep them healthy owing to its various additional properties. But, you will end up saving lot of money in long run which you might spend up on small containers of conditioners often. Still, no that great result!
Since, I have dyed my hair, undoubtedly Loreal Vitamino Color Expert is recommended for them. Avoid buying it online or from any local shop to evade the duplicate one. Preferably, a salon is the best option.
No, I don’t apply any high end day cream or night mask to keep my skin rejuvenated. Thankfully, I am blessed with a healthy skin and try maintaining a proper diet (no, that doesn’t mean starve of course). Yet, my latest obsession for skin care is Almond Oil.
Owing loads of Vitamin E within, Almond Oil is suitable for all skin types and retains our youth and freshness of the skin. Just take two drops of oil and massage it on your face for a minute or so and leave it on.
Also, if any color damage done to your skin, almond oil will work as a magic.
It is scrumptious to eat but also a miracle for skin. For luminosity, clearing acne and skin infections, enhancing the freshness and preventing ageing, honey ticks all the boxes. As your skin has already taken brunt of colors, it’s time to cure the damage naturally. And undoubtedly, honey is the all rounder.
On a daily basis as well, applying raw honey over the face and leaving it for twenty minutes gives you moisturising, freshness and remedy for skin issues; all rolled in one. If not, add one teaspoon of honey to one glass of lukewarm water and have it early morning on empty stomach.
Saffron is highly rated but it is insanely amazing as well. Although, recognising authentic saffron is crucial as it is sold in an array of deceptive ways.
How to identify authentic saffron?
- Real saffron should have sweet aroma and not sweet taste.
- Dip a strand of saffron in baking soda/water. If it still retains its original color, it is authentic.
Benefits of Saffron
- Blending saffron in milk and applying the mask to your face achieves impeccable glow to your face. No beauty product in the market can beat saffron in this aspect.
- Saffron protects us from cancer owing to dark orange substance within called crocin.
- It is helpful for memory loss treatment and also to enhance one’s memory.
- It is helpful to enhance the sex drive as well.
- Saffron protects against cold and viral infections.
Undoubtedly, it is expensive but the most active ingredient of my daily diet and skin routine.
Moisturizing skin is always underestimated compared to enhancing the color of the skin. People are besotted with color but don’t give a damn about its healthy nature. Keeping it hydrated is significant and drinking plenty of water is the best and simple option. Also, a moisturizer definitely helps but choose one according to your skin type.
If you have a oily skin, choose gel based and if you have a dry skin, choose cream based. Although, make sure any of it is light in weight as you are gonna wear it throughout.
Lately, I have bought this Saffron Cream for Kashmir. I can only define it by the term, “Fabulous”.
So, what are your tips for skin and hair care? Waiting for your comments!
Being a girl of 21st century, western outfits have encroached my closet luxuriously over ethnic outfits. Be it in terms of comfort, style or trends, we will always pick up jeans, skirts, one pieces or far fetched gowns. But, saree? Meh! we hardly give it a chance. As an Indian, I had seen it my mom and grandma wearing it. And all, I ever wondered how do they remember wearing it (still, I can’t wear one by myself). Generally, we categorize a saree as a complicated outfit or we assume it is a passe for today’s generation. No one wanna be called a behenji, right? And, this excuses and assumptions thwart us from wearing one mostly.
But, who on earth said you can’t exude sensuality in a saree? In fact, it is one of the most sensuous outfits grabbing many eyeballs and in trend forever.
Net sarees have always been my favorite as they are not light weight but quite sassy in nature. Being a petite frame, I opted for a saree with very minimal details. Although, a sexy blouse added extra brownie points and notched the sartorial space of this plain, simple saree. Moreover, a lace blouse cannot be beaten in terms of sensuality. Without a shadow of doubt, black is the mother goddess. Hence, I opted for a complete black ensemble.
NOTE: Wear your footwear while draping the saree, specially if heels is your choice. Or else, saree might seem short after wearing heels.
Indian attire demands jewelry undoubtedly. Ornamental bangles have always been a rage for me and wearing them in ample amount did lend this sassy attire an ethnic element conspicuously. Statement earrings are always on my list although extremely heavy jewelry is a ‘Big No’.
Indian attire, specially sarees beckons make up but not an extremely heavy one though. Opting for the palette of brown and copper eye shadows, I let the eye make up be subtle. Avoid looking too white and embrace your natural complexion. Having the habit of tanning myself, bronzing is the most favorite part of my make up. A peach blush a bold red lip color are my new obsessions lately.
How to pick up the right saree?
Picking up the right saree can seem a daunting task if your closet is welcoming it for the first time. Remembering your body type is crucial while picking up the right saree for oneself.
Pear shaped :
A bottom heavier than upper body beckons pear shape and your body demands chiffon and georgette sarees. Balancing the proportion of your body, small borders, embroidery work and minimal prints on a saree can enhance your body type.
A heavier bust and stomach categorizes you in an apple shaped and net sarees can be your biggest rival here. Stay away from cotton and stiff fabrics adding more bulk. Instead, a silk fabric can do wonders and also contrasting bold colors. If dark hues isn’t your taste, opt for detailed work on your saree. Although, stay away from colossal prints and big embroideries.
P.S: Enough nuanced details on the saree can camouflage your heavier side.
Hour glass shaped:
Being, the most coveted figure, you have an array of options to choose from. Cotton, Silk, Organza, Net can go impeccably well with your body type and so even brocade and bead work. Halter and tube blouses are enough to tantalize every one out there.
If you are extremely tall, try bold prints and heavy borders as it evade one’s attention from your height. But, if you are vertically challenged, stay away from big prints and borders. Opt for dainty details such as small prints and thin borders.
Why Saree over Every Outfit?
As a kid, while playing Ghar Ghar, I always wore a saree. Making my mom wonder about the ultimate puzzle of her misplaced saree, I dabbled with my kitchen set, (nvr cooked back then or now), dressed up my dolls, read Enid Blyton books, imagined having a hubby like Julian from Famous five, watered my roses in garden and listened to music in verandah. Just like mom.
And even now, while I battle wit labyrinthine task of draping a saree, it opens a Pandora box of memories; it reminds me of grandma snuggling me and wiping my face tenderly with her Saree or my mother holding me as a baby on her waist while cooking and grappling wit her Saree or when, I excitedly danced around to wear a Saree for the first time or while I am waiting fervently to walk on the aisle in it again.
It is just not a mere outfit. It is love.
So, will you a nod yes for the saree on next occasion?
Behenji, nah! Sexy, Yeah!
Once upon a time, a lingerie staple, it has started rooting itself as street style outwear. Corsets are now back with a bang and the trend is roaring audaciously. With its origin from the Victorian era, to Punks, Chanel to Prada, they are clamoring their place in the glory of contemporary fashion. Male sexual fantasies? Meh! It symbolizes more than that. An audacious fashion statement juxtaposing power and sass in tandem. Had your inspiration been driven from Carine Roitfeld, a fervent supporter of corset trend or from Kim Kardashian, corsets are all the rage from runways to streets.
Corsets were deemed merely for burlesque dancers and even though, it stepped a notch higher now in terms of suppressing associated sexual-ism, corsets can never be visualized in the league of ethnic fashion.
Taking up this gauntlet, I decided to reconcile the polarity between the duo. Pairing up my black studded corset top with a vibrant orange lehenga, I let the sass sway in full throttle. Make sure that the lehenga is flowy enough to balance the proportion with the tight corset.
Edgy and sassy, isn’t it?
As the outfit screams drama, I took a plunge with feather earrings. Although, I kept the neck piece simple; just a chain with a ruby pendant. Avoid loud accessories as the outfit is already doing so.
Smoky eye shadow is the main highlight of the make up. Keeping my skin tone bronze, I let it exude a sensual vibe. Let bold lip color and curling lashes do rest of the talking. Products used are from MAC, Body Shop, Lakme, Faces and Color Bar.
What do you think about corsets now? Probably, next family function?
Winters had never been daunting for me as practically I hail from tropical region. 18 to 20 degree celsius can’t be even remotely termed as winter as per ice kissed regions. Hence, I always languished at winter fashion and kept it deliciously audacious. Be it Skirts, Sheath dress or Shorts, I never refrained from wearing them in December or January also as practically, its not at all cold over here. Although, my recent visit to Kashmir dawned upon me that surviving winter is crucial over fashion. The polar white areas will compel you only to eat and shroud yourself in piles of layering. So, what about fashion?
Well, What’s That?
Mostly, you will deny fashion glory in winter until you find the sweet spot between comfort and fashion. This chilly weather beckons us to flirt with some adorable outfits over frumpy ones. So, what is the quandary all about?
Let’s, hit it up baby
Befriend this fierce combination in this pervasive winter as Santa also loves the color, Red. While everyone is narrating their fashion tales with pastels colors, be an ice breaker. Planning a sartorial escape to 70’s trends, these retro pants are definitely stealing the show. Bold red and black with entangled details summons all up. Still, mixed inhibitions about this bright hue and edgy look? Well, couple it with a black and white overcoat and muted shade beanie.
Probably, you may transcend few fashion norms with it. But, undoubtedly, it screams out sinfully good looking ootd. Guess, you should just paint the white town red now.
If ‘Pheren’ sounds greek to you, no qualms about it. Have been there and earned arched eyebrows from the locals of Kashmir. Your eyeballs will be gravitated by this authentic outfit of Kashmiris, Phiran, a loose overflowing garment made of sheep wool and cotton. Must say, it’s extremely warm and cozy. But, how to relate this to fashion, right?
Well, opt for gingham, checks or tartans in them as plaids are all the rage in winter. Honestly, I didn’t buy this outfit but just slipped in it by misplacing from my driver’s seat.
Faux fur turned my obsession with Carrie Bradshaw running over NYC streets in her famous beige faux fur coat. Besides, exuding a royal look, faux furs balances the glamour as well as cruelty-free fashion in tandem. This sparkling black faux fur coat with brown and beige shade collar has been my latest favorite piece.
Not only it provides enough rescue from cold but is a fashion statement itself. Pair it with jeans, skirt or a dress, choice is yours.
The brightest badge of insouciance melded with chicness is a trendy Leather Jacket. You don’t require me to advise you about it. Although, avoid jacket with too many zips, playing a blight on its sassy nature. Take a break from usual colors like black, brown, tan and add a pop of bright shade to your gloomy winter fashion.
How about a bold maroon shade coupled with an edgy sparkling top? Let sparkle and your heartfelt smile do the magic.
Body con with Leggings
Oh yeah, I will earn many arched eyebrows if I advise for a body con in winters. But, don’t you deny that you miss them badly in those months of freezing cold. Why on earth can’t we flaunt our curves in winters as well? Layering, Layering, Layering; Give me a Break. Sadly, we can’t control weather but definitely our style.
And, body con with leggings is not only the most feasible option but it is quite trendy as well. Moreover, the comfort factor of leggings garner it with extra brownie points over pants.
So, bye bye frumpy clothes. Now, winter is all about snow, celebrations and most importantly, sassy style.
